2021 SACC Convention
August 25-28
Mechanicsburg, Carlisle, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania

Well, actually the convention doesn't just start on it's own.
It has to be conceived, worked up, and paperwork must be done.

Back in Illinois, here is (L to R) Gerri Hollada, Michelle Paillou, (our
Online Commerce Specialist), and Mary Rae Brockhouse (Our Club
Secretary) handling the registrations.

So on the way we stopped to visit the Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio.  It
was a working stop because we had a meeting with Ron Eifert from the Dayton
Visitors and Convention Bureau.

After the conference we decided that Dayton, Ohio is a possible candidate for the
2023 National Convention, as Dayton has lots to offer.

August 24, 2021

The Board of Directors met early on August 24.  (L to R) Ken Amrick, OSG Editor,
Bill Stalder, Western Regional Representative, Lucy Badenhoop, Treasurer, Mary Rae Brockhouse,
Secretary, Ron Dill, Eastern Regional Representative.

Not shown:
President Larry Spilman, (in quarantine)
Jack Hollada, Central Regional Representative, (taking the picture).

As we all know, mishaps can happen.  In all the kerfuffle Mike McLain locked his key in
the car.

It was me who had brought an actual coat hanger.

Mike worked the coat hanger over the interior door latch knob, and Ron Dill
worked the exterior door opener for a successful conclusion.

Luckily Mike had lowered his window a bit, that simplified everything.

That evening we had a very nice catered welcome buffet in the meeting room.

On the menu:
-Special salad
-Beef tips with pearl onions and mushrooms
-Sweet potato casserole
-Glazed carrots
-Assorted desserts

The meeting room just wasn't big enough to hold all the happy diners!

This is the overflow dining area.  Actually it is the hotel dining room
for the complimentary hot breakfast.

Out in our secure private parking area I ran into Roger Lester with his '57
Cascade Green color car from Florida.

Actually we briefly had visited with his traveling crew at the Air Force Museum a couple days
earlier.

Anyway, he has owned the car for about 30 years and has put 200,000 miles on it.

Unfortunately, his passenger side wiper blade flew off.  (He is pointing to the base).  The
mishap happened in Ohio on the way to Pennsylvania.

And out there in the security parking area was my friend from Texas, Dennis Conte.

Dennis was part of the convoy from Texas that had started on the previous Saturday.

His car is Jewell Blue and the fuel arives to the engine courtesy of dual quad carburators.

And here is Don Eckhart, also from the Convoy from Texas.

I caught him doing some spiffing up on his nice '58.

He has owned the car for 17 years.

Marty Meckler drove from Nevada in his really nice white '62.

He carries a car cover in the functional above trunk case.

August 26, 2021

This is a view of our secure parking area as seen from the 5th floor window.

The tent was couresty of President Larry Spilman.

The gravel area was for the trailers, as you can see.

We had night-time security and they were very serious about protecting the cars.

And here is our bus that took us to the Gettysburg Battlefield tour.

It was new and comfortable.  A trivia contest was held while traveling on the way.

No it wasn't a busload of bank robbers.

That was the rule, we had to wear a mask while on public transportation.

But did we care?  No!  we were on the way to Gettysburg!

In this picture you can see several things.  First, what a nice day it was.  Second, our
super knowledgeable tour guide.  Third, us standing on Little Round Top.

It was Corvettes around the circle drive at the Carlisle Country Club for
our Banquet and Annual Membership Meeting.

And Vince Baker, the Manager of the Carlisle Country Club welcomed us.

Our guest speaker was Lance Miller, CO-CEO of Corvettes at Carlisle.

Lance spoke about his love of all Corvettes, especially C-1's.  He gave us history
about the #3 Cunningham car that won 1st in class at the 1960 LeMans.

Lance is an excellent public speaker!

As mentioned, President Larry Spilman was home and in quarantine.  I filled in as MC, well I
tried to, anyway, and the club presented Lance with the first ever Noland Adams Award.

He was delighted!

Handing Lance the award is Mary Rae Brockhouse, Secretary of the club, acting chief of
the convention in Larry's absence.

Also slated to receive this first ever Noland Adams Award is Bill Miller, also CO-CEO of
Carlisle Events.

Bill was unable to attend, but we will ship him his award.

And here is the banquet room with those who attended.  It was a nice facility.  President
Larry Spilman had sent great Corvette paintings and posters to liven up the room.

The food was buffet style, only served Covid rules-style.  Our own volunteers dished out the entrees
to the guests.

Everyone had a good time, everyone was well fed, and the silent auction had plenty
of activity.

At the membership meeting several by-laws changes were voted on, plus there were elections.
You will see all those results in the club magaine, On Solid Ground.

August 27, 2021

This was not an example of tailgating.  I stitched these two pictures together.  They were just two
of the many of our cars heading to Corvettes at Carlisle!  It is HWY 114 around the corner from our hotel.

Our club sponsored a well-attended tech session there at Corvettes at Carlisle.

Presenters were Tony Avesidian, Steve Childs, and Mr. Kawasaki.

And the ladies had their own idea of how to spend the day.  They went to Fort Hunter Mansion, shopping, lunch on their own at several choices, and all had a good time.

At the Charity Dinner for Amyloidosis, SACC Treasurer Lucy Badenhoop announced a
contribution from our club.

Wow, here is the C-1/SACC tent and cars right inside Gate 3.

Corvettes at Carlisle treated us royally, providing the larger tent, chairs, and a great
section to call our own.

Many new members were signed up, there were lots of smiles!

Well, that just about wraps up my run-down of the 2021 Convention in Mechaniscburg and Corvettes At Carlisle.  The host hotel was new and nice, and joining with Corvettes at Carlisle worked out just fine.  As I mentioned, President Larry Spilman was in the driver's seat in setting up this convention, and he did an outstanding, superb job.  Sadly the very day before it was time for him to leave home to attend and manage the convention, his doctor ordered him to quarantine.   But he did as ordered.

Next year we will head out west for the 2022 Convention.  Plans are being made as we speak.
